  • Meta's AI Ad Tools Go In-Chat: Advantage+ Video GA and Shopify Checkout at Ad Week

Meta's AI now makes the ad and buys the product. At Advertising Week New York on October 6, the company showed brands how the whole funnel collapses into a chat window.

On the creative side, Advantage+ creative can now generate video from existing static assets — a feature Meta says is generally available. Ads Creative Studio, previously limited to select partners, is opening to more brands, with tools to generate video concepts, swap hooks, adjust audio and clip length, add text overlays and captions, or change end scenes. Video generation from catalog listings is being simplified, with related-product recommendations aimed at upselling. A product catalog becomes a video library without a shoot.

Meta's AI business assistant is getting more memory and context: it now accesses historical campaign data, seasonality patterns, and stated goals, and advertisers can import brand voice guidelines and strategy documents. Meta is testing agentic actions — the assistant updating targeting and budgets from a conversational prompt — plus scheduled tasks that deliver recurring performance reports automatically. Meta also expanded its Ads MCP server so advertisers can use third-party AI tools to build and manage campaigns, and made its Customer Lifecycle Strategy available to all advertisers.

The commerce half is the more interesting bet. Meta is working with Shopify on a direct checkout experience through its Business Agent on Messenger — users buy Shopify products without leaving the conversation. It is also testing direct checkout inside Meta AI with Adyen, PayPal, Shopify, and Stripe, and added the PayPal wallet to its existing checkout options, Link by Stripe and Shop Pay.

Note the sequencing: these are tests, not launches, and Meta reported no results. But the direction is unmistakable — the conversation, not the landing page, becomes the place where purchase intent is captured and converted.

The same day, Meta teamed with Sierra on the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard for how personal AI agents sign in to businesses. Amazon, OpenAI, and Anthropic have not signed on, and Amazon blocked Meta's Muse from its site weeks ago — Muse launched September 8 and shot to the top of the App Store charts within days.

Meta's pitch to brands: AI that understands what people are looking for, discovers products inside Meta AI and Muse, and closes the sale without anyone touching a browser. The pitch to everyone else: one less reason to hire someone to make the ad.

Anthropic's 16.8 Billion Dollar Quarter Still Was Not Fast Enough for the AI Trade

A cartoon robot accountant presents easels of stacked gold coins as a chart to animal investors in a mountain workshop.

Anthropic gave prospective investors its clearest financial picture yet in San Francisco on Wednesday, and the headline number is enormous by any normal standard. Multiple reports from the investor day, first reported by the Financial Times, put third-quarter revenue at 16.8 billion dollars, up roughly 45 percent from 11.6 billion dollars in the second quarter. The company also told attendees it was profitable on an adjusted basis for a second straight quarter and cash-flow positive in the quarter, ahead of a planned initial public offering in November.

Shopify Opens Its Billion-Listing Catalog to Any AI Agent a Shopper Brings

Shopify announced on Tuesday, October 13, that shoppers can now connect almost any AI agent to their account on Shop, the company's order-tracking app, and let that agent browse and buy from a catalog of more than a billion listings. Until now, agentic checkout on Shopify needed a partnership, as Meta's Muse agent received in September. That gate is gone. The shopper brings the agent, the agent does the searching and comparing, and checkout still runs through Shop Pay inside the conversation.

Nvidia Puts $250 Million of Compute Behind UK Research on Keeping AI Agents Safe

Cartoon illustration of robot safety engineers testing a small autonomous robot inside a clear protective dome in a university laboratory.

Nvidia announced on October 14 a five-year donation of computing resources valued at 250 million dollars to support research in the United Kingdom on the safety and security of agentic AI. The commitment works out to 50 million dollars in compute access per year, delivered through UK-based Nvidia Cloud Partners. Most of it is aimed at the wider UK safety research community, with a share set aside for three named efforts: the BOLD lab led by the University of Oxford, the SOFAIR lab led by University College London, and Imperial College London.
