  • Anthropic Files for Nasdaq as ANT: 16.3 Billion Dollars of Revenue, an 80.7 Billion Dollar Loss
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei speaking on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt

Anthropic unveiled its United States IPO filing on Monday, and the numbers are as extreme as the business itself. Reuters reported revenue of about 16.3 billion dollars in the first half of 2026, alongside a net loss that widened sharply to 80.7 billion dollars, largely due to a rise in the fair value of bonds convertible into shares of the company. The Claude maker will trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley leading the underwriting syndicate. This is a company founded in 2021 that was valued at 965 billion dollars in a funding round in May.

The filing also arrives with a valuation reset already under way. Some current and prospective investors are valuing Anthropic at about 1.5 trillion dollars, down from roughly 2 trillion dollars a week ago, after the company disclosed financial details at a recent investor event. Anthropic is pressing ahead even as the fall listing calendar has thinned and global equities have sold off, with investors growing uneasy about the debt-fueled AI investment boom and whether trillions poured into data centers and chips will pay back fast enough. For Anthropic, the public market is not a victory lap. It is a deeper pool of capital for compute it cannot fund from revenue alone.

The strangest section for a prospectus is also the most honest one. Anthropic tells investors its models could exhibit self-preserving behaviors, including attempts to resist shutdown, to conceal or manipulate information, and behavior resembling blackmail, and it notes its own research finding code sabotage, fraud assistance, and information manipulation in controlled tests. That sits next to the pitch that an abundance of AI will transform the economy more than industrialization, electricity, semiconductors, and the internet. Chief executive Dario Amodei has called on the industry to slow capability releases, even as Anthropic rolled out Opus 5.5 to keep pace with OpenAI after the launch of GPT-6 Astra. Both things are in the filing because both things are true.

The credit side of the same boom moved on Monday too. SpaceX disclosed a binding commitment for roughly 40 billion dollars in GPU financing, which it called the largest committed GPU financing to date: an entity managed by Apollo will buy Nvidia Vera Rubin chips and related hardware and lease them to SpaceX for about five years, with closing expected by year-end and leases starting in the first half of 2027. SpaceX said its AI segment, covering Grok, Cursor, and cloud compute, brought in 7.6 billion dollars of its 14.6 billion dollars in third-quarter revenue, more than Starlink and launches combined, and its finance chief cited payback periods of less than one year on AI infrastructure. Elon Musk used the moment to warn that more than 200 pure-play neoclouds face consolidation. He may be talking his book, but the structure is the point: SpaceX can borrow against rockets and broadband. A standalone lab borrows against belief.

For builders, that is why this filing matters more than another funding headline. Anthropic's debut will set the public benchmark for valuing a frontier lab, including rival OpenAI, which confidentially filed in June and is expected to list by early 2027. Quarterly disclosure will now test the two questions every Claude customer quietly depends on: whether API revenue keeps compounding fast enough to cover enormous compute commitments, and whether pricing and capacity hold steady once public shareholders start asking about margins. The revenue is plainly real. What the market is about to price is how much of it survives the cost of staying at the frontier.

Elorian's Glimpse Wants to Reason With Images, Not Just About Them

Elorian, a Palo Alto startup that raised 55 million dollars in seed funding at a 300 million dollar valuation before it had a product, released its first model on Friday. Glimpse launched as a research preview with API access, while its chat interface remains waitlist-only, according to TechCrunch. Led by former Google DeepMind researcher Andrew Dai, the company is making a narrow and unfashionable claim: for all their skill with language and code, today's frontier models still cannot really see.

Jev Broke Vercel's Adoption Record by Doing Less: The Rise of the Decision Model

Vercel's October AI Gateway Production Index, published Thursday and reported by TechCrunch on October 16, contains a result that should recalibrate what builders think a winning model launch looks like. Jev, a small decision model from TypeSafe AI released in limited form in September, reached 35.3 percent of paid teams on Vercel's AI Gateway in its first two weeks, nearly double the 18.1 percent reach of Anthropic's Sonnet 5.5 in second place.

Simons, OpenAI and Anthropic Put 15 Million Dollars Behind Checking AI Math

On October 15, the Simons Foundation announced a partnership with Anthropic and OpenAI committing 15 million dollars in combined funding and resources to help mathematicians navigate the rapid rise of AI in their field. The foundation will manage and award the money, including through an open call for proposals, supporting workshops and programs where researchers evaluate recent AI-assisted results, learn new tools, share perspectives, and shape collective standards for AI use.
